Unfortunately, I don't mean 'green' in the environmental sense of the word. Our poor, dear Iona has been suffering from green poo. I wish it was as simple as the result of me eating too much spinach but no, it's actually a sign of something being off within her intestines. For those of you who may not have first hand baby poo experience, for a little one like Iona who is exclusively breastfed, her poo should be a nice shade of orange. Instead it looks like pesto--which by the way no longer sounds appetizing.
We have taken her to the doctor twice and have a third appointment in a couple weeks. In the meantime, I'm on an elimination diet to figure out if Iona is possibly allergic to something I eat. The top three allergens in infants are dairy, soy and peanuts. Guess what I usually eat!
So, this week I am going without any type of soy. The hardest part of this is giving up soymilk, which is really the only thing I drink other than water. I am at a complete loss as to what to put on my cereal. I've now tried almond milk and rice milk, and tomorrow I'll give hemp milk a go, but nothing quite tastes right. Don't even get me started on how difficult it will be to give cheese up! I eliminate dairy next week. And then peanut products after that.
We have also had her blood drawn to test for anemia and we've taken a stool sample in to be tested for blood and/or an imbalance in bacteria. And through all this Iona seems just fine! She's smiling and laughing and watching her sister in awe (because Holden is awesome). It is only occasionally that she seems uncomfortable so we're thankful she is not in pain.
We'll keep you updated on her condition. And you're welcome. I say this because I know you're all thankful I didn't include any pictures in this post! Just think pesto! :)
Give the Maker of Green Poo a hug for me (not too hard). She's sweet as can be!
